Envelope DIY

hey there.. want a simple DIY for the remains of cute scrapbook paper? I’ve been turning all of my scraps into envelopes, it’s so easy.  i rarely buy cards($5 for a piece of paper...puhlease), i almost always make them at home. so now i can stop buying envelopes too!

fold the paper creating a pocket for your enclosed letter and sew the sides, like this...

cut the sides of the remaining flap at an angle, like this...

seal with some washi tape or a glue stick, and that’s it!

31 weeks

ignore the quadruple chinnage i've got going on... i can't believe i've only got 9 weeks left! she's the size of 4 oranges (*sigh* i remember when she was just a little lentil).

now that i'm carrying my own little fruit bowl it may be time to invest in more maternity shirts eh? that striped top is looking a little short

Letter Decor DIY

looking for an inexpensive, but 'expensive-looking' way to dress up a room?

i bought these paper mache letters at hobby lobby for $2.47 a piece. (if you go this route don't forget to use a 50% off coupon they're always available online!)

and then covered them in scrapbook paper using mod podge

i hung these right above rosie's crib using sticky tack

as i was admiring my 'hard work' and snapping a picture to brag, rosie became 'rosi'... which is better than 'oie' which is what's been hanging since i haven't attached them with anything stronger.

p.s. there are so many things that can be done with these letters, including making them look metallic (as seen below in my pinterest mood board)

DIY pillow

since the move, i’ve been trying to give everything we own a facelift. point in case, our pillows. i’d been wanting to try my Martha stewart paint (which boasts a multitude of uses from porcelain to fabric) to create my own print for new pillow coverings. although i was wondering throughout the process as to whether the pillows would look too ‘3rd-grade-art-project,’ i’m happy with the end result.

to create my own ‘stamp’ i drew designs on a foam sheet, cut them out, and attached them to die using hot glue.

next i painted on the ‘stamp’ a layer of paint and then stamped my design, it was that simple. after i’d finished, i let them dry over night and sewed the 2 together in the morning.  voila...

i opted to make a few ‘harvey two-faced’ pillows’ so that i can change up the look on our futon easily.

did you spy the little lamp that got a fresh coat of the same paint?... nothing is safe around here.

does the triangle print remind anyone else of doritos? or just me, the pregnant one..

Fabric yo yos...yo

some of you have been asking about the flowers i attached to my DIY dress. so below is my DIY for anyone interested in making them, they're called fabric yo yos. and the possibilities of what to do with them, are endless (just pinterest search it)! i particularly love the fabric yo yo quilts that were popular in the early 1900s.
to make them i use these, which you can find at most crafting stores
and this is how you do it (cue the montell jordan)
the plastic makers snap apart like so....
and
 here's the step by step:
1. place fabric in plastic maker and snap together
2.begin to sew within the notches of the plastic maker
3. once you've sewed the entire perimeter, unsnap the yo yo and remove the fabric
4. tighten the yo yo by pulling the thread tight, finally knot the string to secure the yo yo

i hope those directions made sense, if you're like me and learn from watching something, check this youtube video out...

* you don't NEED the plastic mechanism to make them, but it does speed up the process.
